Padres pick Portland after Dodgers choose Vegas.(Brief Article)

After much speculation, the Portland Class AAA franchise has a parent club. Now all it needs is a name. And a field surface. Not to mention a guarantee that the stadium will be completed on time.

Portland Family Entertainment said this week the new Portland franchise, which was purchased earlier this year from the owners of the Albuquerque Dukes, will serve as a San Diego Padres farm team in the Pacific Coast League. PFE, which will operate the franchise, said the Padres' Las Vegas team, which served as the major league team's affiliate for 18 years, will move to here in time for the 2001 season.
