During the 1980s the Institute conducted and commissioned research on the 'costs of children' in families. Family Matters published regular updates of these figures. Other agencies have recently developed different approaches to calculating these costs, and articles describing them were presented in Family Matters. These have now been reproduced in a special publication, A guide to calculating the costs of children, which is on this Web page.
