Baylor-Methodist deal in Houston was more lucrative than Dallas

TOPEKA, KAN. -- It's the Bayou City, not Big D.

Baylor College of Medicine and Methodist Health Care System, both in Houston, beat out The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas for an alliance with Menninger, a world-renowned psychiatric corporation and clinic.

The company will move its operations from Topeka, Kan., to Houston by 2002 to establish a national center for specialty psychiatric services for the mentally ill and create a new brain and behavior institute.

A final agreement among Menninger, Baylor and Methodist is expected in February.
