Despite recent-setbacks, the St. Charles County Convention Center may become a reality.

The St. Charles Family Arena and the cities of St. Peters and O'Fallon are working on concepts to present to the St. Charles Convention and Sports Authority (SCCSA) as early as this month. Construction could begin next year and be completed in one to two years.

The SCCSA has been pursuing a St. Charles city site -- preferably along Interstate 70 -- since the organization's inception in 1993. Recently, the proposed $160 million Three Flags site, including a $50 million convention center, at Fifth Street and I-70 ended in a veto by Mayor Patricia York.
