Care of the dying patient is a social problem that hospice attempts to deal with. The concept of death includes a variety of emotions: a sense that death is natural-yet a sense of fear brought about by needs that are unmet.' Hospice attempts to recognize and satisfy the individual's unique needs by training caregivers, family, and volunteers to care for the dying individual spiritually, physically, and socially .(2)
