Never mind that much of it is written in the same jargon as its subtitle, this is a book that anyone considering a career in long-term care should add to the must-read list.
Author Ben Abramovice, PhD, knows what he's writing about, even if his often turgid style leaves a bit to desire. As administrator of California's Laguna Honda Hospital, the largest municipally-owned long-term-care facility in the country, he undoubtedly has dealt firsthand with all of the issues that he raises.
After saying he wanted to write a definitive textbook for long-term-care administrators, he candidly admits he did not succeed. Instead, he says, 'Long Term Care Administration" should be viewed as an undergraduate text, to be used as adjunct material in health and human-service administrative programs. In a secondary sort of way, he also recommends it as an office reference book for the practicing professional.
