CALCUTTA, Sept. 27 - Flood situation in the North 24-Parganas worsened today with the Ichhamati overflowing at Bagda, Bongaon and Gaighata. The situation in the seven other districts was improving slowly, the state government announced today.

The government has convened an all-party meeting on 3 October to discuss the situation. It will be presided over by Mr Jyoti Basu. The chief minister today described the situation as a national disaster and said a Central team should visit the state before the flood water recedes.

The Dhaka-Calcutta bus service was suspended today because of fresh floods in Bongaon. Trans-border trade through the Petrapole-Benapole …
