Room for individual port operators to be regional hubs.

DESPITE the growing threat from global port operators and shipping lines operating their own terminals, there is still room for individual port operating companies to become regional or sub-regional hub ports, says an international port consultant.

"These individual ports which are not prepared to invest in worldwide network can generate a lot of new businesses at their own terminals in the logistics side," said the Belgium-based Dr Gustaaf De Monie of the International Port Consulting BVBA.
