Democrats just completed their 2000 convention. Unfortunately, a good part of the convention was dedicated to getting over the immediate past (i.e., Bill Clinton's sexual escapades) by reaching into the distant past (i.e., John F. Kennedy and Camelot) in order to change the subject.

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of politicians, Republicans and Democrats alike, being so wedded to the past. Here we are at the dawn of a new century (with new technological wonders ranging from the Internet to genome research, with new customs and mores changing the workplace and home), and politicos are still harping on yesterday's images, battles and grudges.

Just what we need: backward looking leaders. No wonder …
