THE Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry will expand the scope of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) 1999 to cover various aspects concerning consumers' interest such as safety, health, housing and services.
Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the move will facilitate the ministry in taking proper enforcement action to protect consumers' interest.
"We are now looking at rationalising the existing laws concerning consumers to make the CPA as the principal Act... so that all aspects of consumers' interest will come under this Act," he told a news conference after officiating a seminar on consumers' protection law in Bangi, Selangor, yesterday. …
