Beckman Coulter's (4300 Harbor Blvd., Fullerton, CA; Tel: 714/871-4848, Fax: 714/773-8283, Website: www.beckmancoulter.com) Access Ostase blood test is the first automated, serum-based assay to receive clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as an aid in the management of osteoporosis and Paget's disease. The assay is available on Beckman Coulter's Access Immunoassay System, an automated, random-access instrument. The new test gives physicians and patients a more timely method to evaluate therapy to help prevent or treat osteoporosis (a disease that weakens the bones) and Paget's disease (a crippling bone disorder).
