Toxic candles?(Brief Article)

Several months ago I read an article (Newsday, October 19, 1999) that stated, "Lead can arrive in small, pleasant-smelling packages--like scented candles!" Is this true? Do you have any more information about lead-containing candles? How can I tell which candles might have lead in them?
