"Children have no place in a nursing home," said an aide when she was told that 20 children were coming to visit residents.

One teacher brought third-graders, and each was introduced to a resident. They were instructed to ask, "What wasthe funniest thing that ever happened to you?"

Soon there was laughter coming from each room where a child was visiting. The only special assignments were for children who spoke distinctly to be assigned to those residents with hearing difficulties. The children had been practicing so that they would speak clearly. They had talked about their greatgreat grandparents, and they had been told ...
