When Adil Bharmal was promoted from personal banking account manager to branch manager at CIBC's Lyn Valley Centre branch in North Vancouver in late 1998, staff morale was dismal. The entire bank was in the midst of restructuring and staff members were fearful they might lose their jobs. As a result, the branch's financial performance was less than stellar.
