UK Pilkington is planning to link up with Visteon Corporation, to make it by far the biggest automotive glass manufacturer in the world.

It has been agreed that Pilkington would assume the majority ownership and management of Visteon's existing glass business, and the ultimate aim is for the UK company to take complete control of the business.

"We must stress that we are only in the early stages of negotiations at present," a Pilkington spokeswoman said. "The two companies expect to reach a clear decision by the end of the year and if they decide to go ahead with the agreement, the application will then have to go through all the correct regulatory procedures …
