Database software empowers investigators and medical examiners

As Karin Perkins laid in bed one night and tried to figure out what to do with her life, she dwelled on a better way to organize body bags.

"I thought about bar codes and how much easier it would be to identify people and then thought about software," Perkins said. "So this company came from a really bout with insomnia."

Perkins is president and chief executive officer of Skeltrak Inc., a Sarasota-based company that provides a database software product developed for death investigators and medical examiners.

Like many good ideas, hers took a long time to develop.
