RP, Taiwan working to end ban on new Filipino workers.

The Philippines has made some inroads in having Taiwan remove a ban imposed on the hiring of Filipino manufacturing and construction workers, the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) yesterday said.

Labor secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma told BusinessWorld that his meeting last Tuesday with C.J. Kuo, vice-chairman of Taiwan Council of Labor Affairs (CLA), produced positive results.

In a phone interview, Mr. Laguesma said "the CLA did not give a categorical answer to our request, but our discussions were very positive in the sense that they were enlightened on the issues they earlier raised as the reason for the ban."
