Small businesses account For 97% of all U.S. exporting firms and contribute 31 percent of the value of all export goods, according to a recent study by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Between 1987 and 1997, the number of small business exporters tripled from 66,000 to 202,000. Studies have also shown that exporting firms tend to grow 22% faster than non-exporting firms and their success rate and longevity in business is significantly higher. In addition, exporters pay 15 percent higher wages than non-exporting businesses.
