Forty two companies register with PUC to provide local telephone service

The names seem to change every week -- MGC Communications, Maxcess, Compuconnections Network Corp., and Second Century Communications -- but the request is the same.

They all want to become Competitive Local Exchange Carriers. They want to compete with U S West Communications.
