What is the purpose of the Monticello Association?

The Monticello Association is a Virginia cemetery association. We were formed in 1913 because Jefferson family members in the Charlottesville area were concerned about the condition of the Jefferson graveyard. It had fallen into disrepair. The fence and wall were not adequate to prevent vandals or souvenir hunters from defacing tombstones. Trees had fallen down, and weeds had overgrown the cemetery. There were about 20 charter …
