Ex Libris integrates platform in ALEPH 500 System, BASCOM initiates donation service for the hardware poor

Up until now, the library technology market--and indeed most other computer markets as well--has long been the stronghold of the Microsoft Windows platform. Now, however, the global dominance of Microsoft is being challenged by several new potential platforms, including the Linux-based thin server solutions marketed by BASCOM Global Internet Services, Inc. Linux is throwing down the gauntlet in hopes of stealing away a bit of the Windows market share. BASCOM is taking a similar tack as AT&T did when saturating the market with UNIX more than three decades ago.
