The Marjorie Hulsizer Gopher award is the highest honor bestowed by The American Dietetic Association (ADA). It recognizes a preeminent member of the Association who has given years of experience to the field and time and energy to the Association and who exemplifies outstanding and admirable character traits. Mary Lou South, MA, RD, has been named the 1999 recipient.
A graduate of Iowa State University, Ames, and the University of Redlands, Redland, Calif, where she received her master's degree, South then directed her energies into management and teaching. After completing her dietetic internship at the University of Minnesota Hospitals, she joined the staff at Butte Community Memorial Hospital in Butte, Mont, where she became department director.
