Forest Lands Earn Green Certification In New York State.(Brief Article)
New York is the first state to receive NWF SmartWood certification for environmentally sound management of all of its multiple-use public forest lands-more than 700,000 acres that are managed for timber, wildlife, water quality and recreation.
The certification verifies that the forests are administered for long- term ecological, social and economic health. To win certification, forest operations must show, for example, that they protect streams and wetlands and conserve wildlife, including endangered species.
