PULAU PINANG, April 7 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz said today that small and-medium-scale industries (SMIs), especially in the manufacturing sector, should be independant as soon as the transformation process under the global supplier programme (GSP) and multinational corporations (MNCs) is completed.

The International Trade and Industry Minister said although under the scheme, the SMIs were given two to three years to upgrade their competencies to meet their customers' need, they should reach the target as soon as possible.
