Military outposts nationwide are bracing for attacks by communist insurgents as the rebels celebrate the 31st anniversary of the leftist New People's Army (NPA) today.
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff general Angelo T. Reyes directed yesterday all military troops to remain alert and vigilant for possible rebel offensives.
"The troops should remain vigilant to counter treacherous attacks coming from the NPAs," Mr. Reyes said in a statement.
NPA is the military arm of the outlawed Communist Party of the Philippines. It was founded in 1969 to push the communist ideology through armed conflict.
