A few weeks ago I went to visit a colleague. I hadn't been to that office in at least six months, but when I walked in, the receptionist stood up, greeted me by name and shook my hand. She started a conversation, even asking me about something we had discussed on my previous visit to the office.

That encounter reinforced for me what an impact a company's receptionist can have on those who call or visit an office. This is a position that is often overlooked because people typically deal with a receptionist on the way to speaking with or meeting with someone else.
