Railroads try to ensure service after merger.(Brief Article)

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. continues to try to ease shippers' deep misgivings about the railroad's proposed merger with Canadian National Railway Co.

The Fort Worth-based railroad has announced it will guarantee its 8,000 to 10,000 shippers consistent or better rail service once the two railroads combine, if the merger is approved by the U.S. government.

The announcement comes at a time when consolidation of other railroads -- and their immense service failures -- are still fresh in the minds of all of the customers who lost money and were inconvenienced by the moves.
