CALCUTTA, March. 8. - The Opposition today walked out of the Assembly when Mr Jyoti Basu began his speech on the Governor's address and returned at the end of the session.

Congress, Trinamul MLAs and the lone BJP member boycotted Mr Basu's speech because he was absent from the better part of the debate session and Opposition leaders' speech.

Criticising it as "wilful indifference and insult", the Opposition members shouted slogans.

Mr Basu blasted the Opposition for its "uncivilized and barbaric" behaviour on 2 March when the Governor was addressing the House.
