During the past several years, the Tampa Bay area has benefited from a good economy and its own wealth of natural resources. As a result, our population is expected to grow well into the 21st century. This growth will have a definite impact on our potable water supply.
The Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) predicts that if we don't develop new water supplies now, the Tampa Bay area could face a shortage of 38 million gallons of water per day (mgd) as early as 2003. That shortage could increase to 92 mgd by 2010.
This projected water supply shortage is perhaps the greatest overall threat to prosperity that the Tampa Bay area has ever faced. In light of this, the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, …
