Nothing is as it seems on the tony blocks surrounding Rittenhouse Square, at least where its restaurants are concerned.

Neil Stein -- he of the Striped Bass, Rouge, Fishmarket and pending Avenue B on Broad Street -- was supposedly set to go into the proposed Rittenhouse movieplex and garage deal with his supper club steakhouse concept, Neil's.

This week, Stein reports that he instead was inches from signing a deal with real estate superstar Allan Domb to belly up to the long-vacant bar and restaurant space in the Barclay Hotel.
