Ex-nurse, gang boss busted for hospital extortion.

KOSHIGAYA, Saitama -- A former nurse and a gang boss were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of extorting 38 million yen from the former director of the scandal-tainted hospital here where she worked, police said.

Yoshinobu Takahashi, 55, head of the Takahashi-gumi, an affiliate of the Sumiyoshi-kai gang, and Kimiko Okada, 45, former chief nurse of the now defunct Sengendai Hospital in Koshigaya, were accused of extortion.

The 63-year-old former director of the hospital had been given a suspended three-year prison sentence for defrauding the medical insurance fund out of about 130 million yen in medical fees.
