Symyx Technologies Inc. (3100 Central Expwy., Santa Clara, CA 95051; Tel: 408/764-2000, Fax: 408/748-0175) announced the issuance of U.S. Patent 5,985,356 in the field of high-speed materials discovery. Jointly owned by Symyx and the Regents of the University of California, the patent was exclusively licensed to Symyx in connection with the formation of the company.
The patent is fundamental to the high-speed combinatorial research and development of new materials, including catalysts and electronic materials, and contains over 70 claims directed toward the synthesis and screening of arrays of in organic materials. The methodologies broadly covered by the patent include both the liquid and thin-film deposition of materials onto arrays, as well as screening techniques for a wide variety of electrical, mechanical, and chemical properties.
