Aclara BioSciences (1288 Pear Ave., Mountain View, CA 04043; Tel: 650/210-1200; Website: aclara.com), experienced in microfluidics and microfabrication, has established an alliance with Cellomics (635 William Pitt Way, Pittsburgh, PA; Tel: 412/826-3600; Website: cellomics.com) to manufacture and market a whole- cell analysis system known as CellChip. Cellomics is experienced in cell and molecular biology, fluorescence-based reagents, optical detection, informatics, and cell pattering.
The CellChip system enables a large number of parallel live-cell assays for a broad range of applications, including the discovery of new drugs and stratification of patients for effective therapies and basic bioscience. It will consist of a closed cassette containing uniquely patterned arrays of animal or plant cells on the Cellomics CellChip plate, with direct microfluidic addressing of cell domains by Aclara's microfluidic LabCard. This will allow advanced cellular assemblies, as well as significantly decreased consumption of ...
