Telekom Malaysia pre-tax falls 47pc to RM884m.

TELEKOM Malaysia Bhd suffered a 47 per cent drop in its pre-tax profit at operating level to RM884.2 million for the year ended December 31 1999 from RM1.668 billion previously due to a decline in top-line revenue, higher provision for bad debts and increased labour costs.

This was on the back of a 1.8 per cent decline in group operating revenue to RM7.833 billion from RM7.98 billion the year before.

Profit attributable to shareholders fell 17.4 per cent to RM819.1 million from RM991.1 million.

Earnings per share declined to 27.2 sen from 33 sen.

It is recommending a first and final dividend of 10 sen per share.
