BEGINNING WITH THIS issue of InfoWorld, I will be focusing my column exclusively on Linux and open-source issues. This shift is due in part to a change in my primary responsibilities. Last week I resigned as Editorial Director of LinuxWorld to focus my time on Linux Standard Base. Caldera Systems is generously sponsoring an "artist in residence" position to make this possible.

The arrangement is similar to the way VA Linux employs Jon "Maddog" Hall to head up Linux International. But since there will be an understandable perception of conflict of interest, I will do my best to disclose my relationship with Caldera Systems whenever I must deal with the issue of Linux …
