* Tinseltown's in a twist these days--but the buzz has nothing to do with this year's Oscar nods. Instead, A-list attention is on stars who are suddenly pin-thin. Their born-again bodies are rumored to be the result of high-protein diets--like The Zone, Atkins, and Carbohydrate Addicts.
Jennifer Aniston, for instance, is said to have dropped nearly 20 pounds by embracing Atkins and shunning bread and rice. Courtney Love went from grunge to glare by dropping 20 pounds on an Atkins-type diet. And Sarah Michelle Gellar and Sandra Bullock had specially prepared Zone meals sent to their sets.
But it isn't just the residents of La-La Land who are carb-crazed. Last year, desperate dieters bought over 7 million copies combined of the top three weight-loss bibles: Enter the Zone, The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet, and Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution. The National Cattlemen's Beef Association reports that beef consumption was up $1.5 billion over last year.
