Several anti-spam groups are calling for a boycott of a new service provided by the Direct Marketing Association, which allows businesses and consumers to opt out of receiving unsolicited commercial e-mail.

Members of DMA have agreed to remove any e-mail addresses registered through the group's www.e-mps.org database from their solicitation lists. The association says its e-Mail Preference Service, which debuted Jan. 10, won't eliminate spam but is "an important part of the overall solution."
