A series of crimes during the mid-1980s collectively referred to as the Glico-Morinaga Incident has led the National Police Agency (NPA) to concede defeat for the first time in its history.
Despite assigning about 1.3 million officers to the case, collecting truckloads of evidence and assembling some 28,300 tips from the general public, the NPA has been forced to admit it will not catch the culprits before the statute of limitations runs out on the remaining cases at midnight on Saturday.
