If sportswriters Rick Snider and Mark Maske both have it right, Washington Redskins Coach Norv Turner had more ups and downs than a day trader last week.

Snider, who covers the Redskins for The Washington Times, went deep in a Dec. 21 front-page story that said Turner likely would be offered a buyout of his $1 million-a-year contract. Under that scenario, Snider said, Turner would resign after the season, whether the team made the NFL playoffs or not.

Turner missed the playoffs his first five seasons as the Redskins' head coach and his future clearly was under scrutiny by team owner Dan Snyder.
