For Arizona Mexico is more than just a quick weekend getaway. This year, it strengthened its position as the state's top export partner.

Through the first nine months of 1999, $2.3 billion worth of products were shipped to Mexico. That's an increase of 16 percent from the same period last year.

The trend strong for Arizona's manufacturers -- both large and small.

While major players such as Motorola Inc. and Intel Corp. account for most of the state's export dollars, the Valley's small businesses are becoming more active in international business, according to Sally Spray, director of the Arizona Department of Commerce's International Trade …
