Ternate, N Maluku, Jan 28 (ANTARA) - A commission investigating rights abuses (KPP HAM) believed that national and local political interests were intentionally fanned out to spark riots in North Halmahera, Ternate and Tidore.

"We notice that the political interest of a certain group, including religious groups, assisted by certain elements from the central government has overshadowed a score of sectarian clashes in North Maluku, as can be seen from the fanning out of issues on regional autonomy and the next governor's seat of North Maluku," KPP-HAM chairman Bambang Suharto told the press here on Friday.
