LANGKAWI, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- Former world champion Irina Maharani from Malaysia qualified to compete in the Sydney Olympics 2000 in Australia after displaying her best performance in the women's 25m Sport Pistol event at the 9th Asian Shooting Championship at the Langkawi International Shooting Range here today to create Malaysian history.

Although she finished sixth out of eight contestants in the final, Irina was fortunate as the top three winners had earlier qualified for the Olympics.

Another shooter who qualified for the Sydney Olympics was Japan's Yoko Inada who finished fifth.

In the event, Irina collected 576 points while Korea's Boo Soon …
