NEW DELHI, Jan. 24. - The race for chief ministership is expected to hot up and perhaps end on a bitter note for some of BJP's allies, with Mr LK Advani making it clear that there was "no bar on any Union minister staking claim for the top slot" in Bihar.

Though a seats deal between the warring Samata and Janata Dal-United was hammered out yesterday, an uneasy calm prevails. The Samata, which had to come down from its original claim of 140 seats to 90 seats, has expressed its dissatisfaction.

The JD-U, which managed to increase its quota from 42 to 64, is upbeat. Clashes between these two outfits can't be ruled out …
