LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD (LIRR) has placed an order for 192 emu commuter cars worth $US 655 million with Bombardier Transportation. The deal could be worth a total of $US 1.85 billion if options for an additional 808 vehicles are exercised.
If all 1000 cars are built, 700 of them will go to LTRR and 300 to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's other commuter operator, Metro North Railroad (MNR).
