California, Colorado and Texas lead U.S. in total income growth.(Brief Article)

Texas ranked third behind California and New York for the top three states with the highest total personal income for 1998.

That's according to an American City Business Journals study of newly released income data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. ACBJ is the parent of Houston Business Journal.

California is undoubtedly the economic powerhouse of America. Its residents drew slightly more than one-eighth of the money earned by all Americans last year.

The total personal income of all California residents amounted to $900.90 billion in 1998. That equaled 12.59 percent of the national total of $7.16 trillion.
