Venture expands Staples' local presence, gives Scotty's ammunition in "big box" wars.
ORLANDO -- Staples is making a big push into Orlando.
A lease deal with Scotty's Home Centers will expand the local presence of Framingham, Mass.-based Staples, a $7 billion retailer of office supplies, to 13 locations.
The deal coincides with Scotty's efforts to tackle such "big box" competitors as Lowe's and Home Depot. And it opens up prime real estate locations for Staples in Orlando.
"It gives us the opportunity to increase our store count in Florida almost instantly," says John Barton, senior vice president of Staples Realty.
