COLUMBIA, S.C. _ A helicopter from the Richland County Sheriff's Department made an emergency landing Thursday morning at Windsor Elementary School in northeast Richland County.

Children were outside playing when the incident occurred. No one the helicopter carried the pilot and two passengers was injured.

``Pilot Mark Shuford did a phenomenal job,'' said Lt. Joseph Pellicci, spokesman for the Sheriff's Department.

``Everybody was in awe of the way he was able to set down in the schoolyard with children outside and that close to the building.''

The officers were up in the helicopter taking surveillance photos for a case when the pilot…
