Beula Becker Marble, MS, RD, 1939-1940 president of The American Dietetic Association (ADA), passed away on May 6, 1999, at Carlton Willard Retirement Home in Bedford, Mass. She was 93 years old. Her presidency was noted for raising the awareness of nutrition services in the national defense program and for the development of the Association's official seal, which is still in use today (see above).
Born on a farm in Tremont, Ill, Marble learned early that all parts of the food chain are important in providing Americans with a wide variety of food choices. Marble majored in nutrition at the University of Illinois, Urbana, and completed her internship and master's degree at the University of Iowa, Iowa City.
