WASHINGTON _ Thirteen suspected Mideast terrorists, linked to the Osama Bin Laden organization and presumed to be part of threatened end-of-the-millennium attacks against Americans overseas, have been arrested in Jordan, U.S. officials reported Wednesday.
``We believe these were members of Bin Laden's organization that posed a threat to Americans,'' said White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart.
State Department spokesman James Foley said the United States has also contacted Pakistan about the additional arrest of a suspected terrorist there. The man was apprehended near the Afghan border and is also believed to be part of Bin Laden's terrorist ring.
Acting on information provided by the Central Intelligence Agency and other elements of the U.S. intelligence community, the State Department last week issued a worldwide warning of possible terrorist attacks against U.S. citizens to coincide with New Year's and the Muslim Ramadan religious holiday.
