The University of Cincinnati is about to preserve the Tri-State's reputation as the leather capital of America.
Oh, relax. It has nothing to do with Robert Mapplethorpe. Rather, it has to do with the Leather Industries Research Laboratory, which is moving from UC's Clifton campus to a Winton Place center owned by the school.
The move is among a handful of projects to be financed by $14.3 million in new bond issues expected to be approved by UC trustees Nov. 23. Plans call for the construction of a $1.5 million facility to house the lab, which conducts research on environmental and quality-control issues in the leather tanning industry. The lab is owned by UC, but it's operated by Washington, D.C.-based trade group Leather Industries of America.
